God Is With Us by Disciple

As I was searching for a good song to start the new year out with, I came across Disciple’s song “God Is with Us.” I read over the lyrics and realized that it was perfect.

I think we can all agree that we are currently in a battle – in our world, our nations, our states, our cities and towns, our schools, even our churches. (Actually, we are always in a battle of some sort; it just happens to be pretty obvious at the moment.)

When we look around, we can see a number of battles occurring in various areas:

  • Political

  • Social

  • Physical

  • Mental

  • Emotional

  • Spiritual

Ultimately, though, all of these battles are simply physical manifestations of the much larger spiritual battles being waged in the invisible realm (Ephesians 6:12).

It can be overwhelming – what are we to do in the face of these battles?

Fear not! God is with us!

Disciple’s *Long Live the Rebels* Album Cover

When we choose to trust in and to walk in obedience to God, and when we face our battles dressed in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20), we can rest in Romans 8:31b, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (English Standard Version).

Disciple’s song “God Is with Us” from their album Long Live the Rebels, while calmer in style than some of their other songs, nevertheless packs an extremely powerful message.

It speaks of feeling weary from the growing attacks of the wicked, but calling on the Name of the Lord and receiving victory in seemingly impossible situations. It also stresses choosing not to be afraid – no matter what – “For God is with us.”

Disciple always seems to list the Scriptures they use to back up their lyrics, which I strongly appreciate. Sometimes the Scriptures are listed after the title; other times they are listed throughout the lyrics as they apply.

This song has the Scriptures listed throughout the lyrics – and it is loaded with them!

I will list the references below:

  • Isaiah 8:10

  • Psalm 121:1-2

  • Psalm 27:1-2

  • Psalm 64:3-10 (Verses 1-2 are also connected to the passage – may as well read all of it.)

  • Psalm 18:29

  • Deuteronomy 20:4

  • John 1:4-5

  • Isaiah 43:2

  • Deuteronomy 31:6

Each of these Scriptures is powerful and encouraging – I strongly encourage you to look them up, read them, and rest in their promises. I can tell you that I was really comforted and encouraged when I read them. It can be too easy to forget God’s promises when times are tough – I definitely appreciate reminders!

And listen to Disciple’s song! If you like it and want to buy it, the album is available though Disciple’s store. Their website disciplerocks.com also has links for digital downloads if preferred.

Let me know if this or other songs have also been an encouragement to you for spiritual warfare.

Stand strong, and be Blessed! God is with us!
